The competition is immense when it comes to Major League
Baseball. In the 2009 season, 30 teams will fight it out for
a spot in the World Series 2009, the grand finale at the end
of the season.
MLB baseball consists of 30 teams from two conferences - 16
from the National League and 14 from the American League.
Each team play a 162 game regular season, one of the most
intensive match schedules of any sport. The top seven teams
from the regular season then contest an elimination Play-off
series, which culminates with the World Series finale to
determine the season champions.
World Series have been around since the first Series was
played in 1903 between the Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh
Pirates. Since then, the annual championship game has
brought together the best teams from the National and
American Leagues every year, with the exception of 1904. The
Yankees have been overwhelmingly well-represented in the
World Series, having appeared nearly forty times. As has
been the case late in many past seasons, the New York
Yankees are considered a big favorite to win the World
Series, as they are at +150 odds in
MLB Betting Odds.

the World Series comes around and now it's the best time to

2009 College World Series
The 2009 College World Series will begin on Saturday, June 13 and
conclude either June 23 or June 24, 2009 on Omaha. All 17 possible
baseball games will be televised wither on ESPN or ESPN2.
The College World Series is the
exciting season-ender of each NCAA men's college baseball season. The
eight best NCAA baseball teams (after advancing through the regionals
and super-regional) compete against one another in two four-team
brackets. The winners from each bracket then compete against one another
in a best two-out-of-three series to decide, who will be the next
College World Series champions.
The CWS format divides the 8 teams that
qualify into two separate 4-team double-elimination brackets and the
winners from each bracket advance to play each other in a best of 3 CWS
Championship series, in a quest for a national championship.

Basics of
baseball betting |
+ At prices from pick 'em to
-130, just focus on picking the winner of the game, and not on the price.
+ At prices higher than -130, strongly review the chances of the underdog
first.
+ If the price on a favorite is too high for your taste, consider the total.
+ When playing totals, beware of betting too many "over."
+ Generally speaking, it takes "two to tango" for a game to go "over."
+ If the price on a favorite you would like to play is too high, consider
playing that team on the "runs line,"
+ Avoid the temptation of getting involved with too many parlays.

Value in the lines |
|
A common question that arises when betting on baseball, is
what constitutes a good line? Most of the time (though the
Yankees were well over average in 1998, and the Marlins
below) baseball teams will win between 40% - 60% of their
games. The baseball bettor must determine what they
believe are the chances of a team beating another in a
given situation, and then relate that to what- price is
being given by the bookmakers.
The following is a breakdown of what percentage of plays
at a given price must win, just for a bettor to break

The Birth of Baseball |
|
Baseball.
The American Pastime. A true love of mine and of many Americans.
The game's objective is to outscore your opponent by having
more base runners come across the final of four bases, called
home plate. It's ironic in a way. The more these athletes "go
home", the more successful they are. There is a reward
in a "walk" and batters can be among the game's
greats by failing seven out of 10 times.
Although
baseball is usually traced to the mid-19th century, games involving
bats and balls started long before that. In fact, the first
recorded "batting contests" began more than 5,000
years ago when Egyptian priests engaged in mock combat with
bats. Balls which sometimes symbolized the sun and other deities,
eventually found their way into the game. These games were gradually
brought to Europe and eventually America.
